The Great Fire of Chicago and the Hindenburg explosions have many similarities and differences. Both considered disasters, the exact reason why both fires started is unclear. The Chicago Fire is rumored to start in a barn while the Hindenburg is believed to have started by an unknown spark that was ignited, leaking hydrogen and causing an explosion. The result of both fires took their tolls. The Great Fire took 31 hours to finally burn out and an estimated amount of 300 fatalities. The Hindenburg also had fatalities, killing 36 crew members and passengers, however, 62 of the 97 crew and passengers survived the explosion. Besides the Hindenburg itself, no other structure received damage, unlike the Chicago Fires which destroyed around 17,500 buildings.
