What is Coronary Artery Disease?
It is a very common type of heart disease. It is when the arteries build up with plaque(Atherosclerosis) and start to harden (Arteriosclerosis) which results in reduced blood flow and oxygen, and so the heart muscle will not get enough blood and oxygen it needs to function properly.

What is another name for a heart attack
Myocardial infarction

What is similar between a heart attack and a stroke?
Both have interrupted blood flow and oxygen to their organ due to an interruption in a coronary artery that delivers blood and oxygen.

Explain how coronary artery disease can lead to a heart attack
With plaque building up inside the coronary arterial walls, eventually the plaque can rupture and block the artery, which blocks blood flow and oxygen. When blood flow is cut off and oxygen, the heart muscles will start to die and so a heart attack has started. Or hardened arteries can reduce blood flow because the arteries are not as elastic and so blood will not flow properly and so it can eventually block and stop blood flow and cause a heart attack.

Explain why death can occur if a heart attack is left untreated
If blood flow is not restored quick enough, the heart muscle will die from lack of oxygen and so it will not pump blood efficiently around the body for the body to function properly. When the heart muscle cells die, the heart can stop beating which is called cardiac arrest. No blood is being pumped around the body, and if blood flow isn't restored to the brain, then the brain will shut down and so will the whole body and you die.

What is the difference between a ischemic stroke and a hemorrhage stroke?
An ischemic stroke is when a blood clot forms that blocks blood flow and oxygen to part of the brain due to the buildup of plaque or the hardening of the arteries. A hemorrhage stroke is when a blood vessel on the brain's surface ruptures and fills the space between the brain and the skull with blood or when a defective artery in the brain bursts and fills the surrounding tissue with blood.

Explain how high blood pressure can cause coronary artery disease?
High blood pressure can damage the arterial walls causing them to burst or clog more easily. It also causes the blood vessels to weaken resulting in ruptures.

Explain what are and what thrombolytics do
Thrombolytics is a type of medication used to treat heart attacks. They help to dissolve a blood clot that's blocking blood flow to your heart.
300
What does TPA stand for and what does it do?
TPA stands for Tissue plasminogen activator and it is given to restore blood flow by dissolving the blood clot in the brain.

What is angina and how does coronary artery disease cause it?
Angina is not a disease but a major symptom of Coronary artery disease. Angina is a chest pain, discomfort or tightness that occurs when an area of the heart muscle is receiving decreased oxygen and blood supply. This is due to the plaque build up due to coronary artery disease which decreases blood flow and oxygen to the heart.

Why do you feel pain on the left side of your upper chest, shoulder, arm and jaw during a heart attack?
You feel pain on the left side because your heart is on the left side of your body and so pain can move to your left side of your jaw, upper chest, arm and shoulder.

How can an echocardiogram diagnose if you are having a stroke?
It can find the source of your clots in the heart which may have traveled to your brain and caused your stroke
500
What is an echocardiogram and why does the doctor use this and how can they tell you have heart disease?
An echocardiogram is used to diagnose heart disease. It produces images of your heart using sound waves. The doctor will use an echocardiogram to indicate whether all parts of your heart wall are contributing normally to your heart's pumping activity. Parts of the heart that may be moving slowly may be damaged from lack of oxygen.

Why does a heart attack cause difficulty breathing? List the 2 ways
The heart does not pump enough oxygen rich blood for the body to function properly, and blood blocked in the arteries have nowhere to go and so the fall back and fill the lungs with fluids.

Why would it be dangerous to give an aspirin to a patient who is having a hemorrhage stroke?
Aspirin is a clot busting drug used to clear arteries and restore blood flow primarily in ischemic strokes. In a hemorrhage stroke, you are trying to clot the blood and stop it from bleeding. Using an aspirin will make the hemorrhage stroke harder to stop and the bleeding will be harder to stop which will cause more tissue damage to the brain.
