What is a Hypothesis?
A hypothesis is an educated guess. An idea of what we think might happen in an experiment.
100
What is the first step in the scientific method?
Ask a question
100
What is the equation for figuring out Density?
Density = Mass/Volume
100
If I take a survey in my class of favorite colors and collect the data, what type of graph would be the best to convey the information?
Bar graph or pie chart
100
What is more dense: Aluminum with a density of 2.7 or Copper with a density of 8.96?
Copper is more dense. 8.96>2.7
200
What is the independent variable?
The variable I change.
200
What is the second step in the scientific method?
Research
200
What is mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object. (its weight)
200
Which direction do columns and rows run?
Columns run up and down. Rows run side to side.
200
Do gummy bears grow when left in water? Do they grow when left in salt water?
Gummy bears grow in plain water but shrink in salt water.
300
What is the dependent variable?
The dependent variable is the the resulting variable. Something I can't/don't control.
300
What are the third and fourth steps in the scientific method?
Form hypothesis and design an experiment
300
What is volume?
Volume is the amount of space an object takes up.
300
In a class of 28 students, 7 people like pink, 5 people like green, 10 people like blue and 6 people like orange. Draw a bar graph to represent this data.
Miss. K will evaluate work.
300
What weighs more, a pound of steal or pound of noodles?
They both weigh the same! A pound
400
What are controlled variables?
Controlled variables are everything that we keep the same.
400
What are the fifth and sixth steps in the scientific method?
Gather and Analyze data and Conclusion
400
How can the volume of an object be determined?
The volume can be determined by multiplying the base by width by the height, of a square. Or by placing an object in water and determining how much the water rises.
400
When graphing the survey question, what are students favorite colors, the colors, pink, blue, green and orange are independent variables. Which axis does the independent variable go on?
The x axis
400
Which of the following doesn't fit: Ask a question, form a hypothesis, dependent variable, and design an experiment.
Dependent variable doesn't fit. All of the others are steps in the scientific method.
500
What is the control group?
The control group is the group used for comparison. (The plain water gummy bear group, to compare to the gummy bears with salt, sugar, etc.)
500
What are the last steps in the scientific method?
Share results and further research
500
What is the density of an object that has a mass of 26 and a volume of 8?
26/8 = 3.25
500
Draw a graph for the following data each month the average rainfall: (March - 53 inches) (April - 175 inches) (May - 110 inches) (June - 68 inches)
Miss. K. will check work.

What did Archimedes do? How did he figure out the density of the king's crown?
Archimedes figured out the volume of the crown by placing it in water and calculating how much the water rose. The amount the water rose, was the volume of the crown. He then divided the mass of the crown by that number and got the crown's density. It wasn't dense enough to be gold! The goldsmith got in trouble...
