They were interested in Maine because there were many opportunities to make money there. The fur trade, fishing and shipbuilding along with other natural resources made Maine an ideal spot for expansion. Also, there was an abundance of land which could attract new settlers.

It was a war fought between the English settlers in Maine and the French-supported native tribes. A Wabanaki chief (Metacomet) was angered by the loss of valuable land to the white settlers. He leads his armies against the English but is defeated after a year of fighting.

He was a French minister in Central Maine. He was very kind to all the native people and wanted to preserve their language and culture. However, he was killed by the English during the King Lovewell's War. There is a monument dedicated to him in the town of Norridgewock.

They want to control Maine because it is a source of valuable trade opportunities. It is the battle at Fort Louisbourg where William Pepperell leads an attack that seals a victory for his country, allowing them to control the entire state of Maine.

He was a man from England who sailed to the New World with hopes of making lots of money in the colonies. He sailed the coast of Maine and would eventually lead an exploration to Virginia and help set up the colony of Jamestown.
