Assess the impact of the colonisation of Australia on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Give examples with your answer.
The colonisation of Australia had a negative impact on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples, who were Indigenous to the country. The British arrived to Australia claiming "terra nulius" which meant the land was unclaimed. Due to this, the British did not sign any treaties with the Indigenous peoples and just started to claim the land as their own. Many peoples lost home and wars were started as the Indigenous peoples started to resist the expansion of the British. There was a mass loss of life for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples due to their resistance. Soon after the British started to place Indigenous peoples on homes to control them.
