What is the definition of Therapeutic Village of Care?
What is : The Therapeutic Village of Care (TVC) is an alcohol and drug-free residential environment in which people live together in an organized and structured way in order to promote change and achieve long-term recovery. The therapeutic community forms a miniature Alaska Native village in which residents, and staff in the role of facilitators, fulfill distinctive traditional roles and adhere to clear rules, all designed to promote the transitional process of residents to long-term recovery. A village council establishes the rules guiding the community and provides soft sanctions when rules are not adhered to. The model is designed around Alaska Native culture integrating the concept of culture as a healing agent while using a strength-based approach.
