This Forest hosted the first ever Wild Outdoor Week (WOW!) refugee youth outreach program in August. Ten refugee teens ages 14-17 from Congo, Thailand, Burma, Nepal, Iraq, and Mexico completed hands on service projects including invasive weed removal, planting native shrubs, raking around structures for fire prevention, and building and installing bird boxes.
Together with numerous Forest specialists and partners, youth learned about fire ecology, wildlife habitat, watershed dynamics, fishing, pollinators, native plants, and Forest Service careers.
Partners included: Golden Eagle Audubon Society, Land Trust of the Treasure Valley, Intermountain Bird Observatory(Boise State University), Boise Watershed, Foothills Learning Center, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
