What skill should follow successfully teaching front and back floats?
Front and/or back glides.
200
What is the main difference between Level 1 and Level 2?
Level 2 students must perform Level 1 skills without assistance.
200
What is the order that you should progress through the dives, from beginning to end.
Sitting, Kneeling, Lunge, Standing.
200
What are the minimum number of kicks that a student must be able to use to tread water and what are all of the possible kicks that can be used.
Two kicks required out of scissor, breaststroke or rotary.
200
What is the main purpose of Level 5?
To build endurance and stroke technique to prepare the student for distance/workout swimming.
300
Your student is learning back glide with kicks, but his hips are sinking causing him to jackknife. Name three things you can do to fix this.
Keep head back, stomach up, and straight non-bicycling legs.
300
Your student is trying to recover to a vertical position from a front and back glide but is having trouble. Detail the processes in a way that a five year old could understand.
Front Glide: Push your hands down from your head to your hips in front of you and tuck your feet underneath you to find the ground. Back Glide: Scoop your hands from your hips to your head and tuck your feet underneath you to find the ground.
300
Name two ways you would use a kickboard, pull buoy, and the barbell in order to teach a student the skills required for Level 3.
Kickboard: Perfecting kicks and isolating arms one at a time to help with arm form and/or rotary breathing. Pull buoy: Keep focus on arms, keep hips up, aid in rotation. Barbell: Perfecting kicks and isolating arms one at a time to help with arm form and/or rotary breathing.

When teaching dolphin kick/butterfly, where does the dolphin motion start? Also, give a good explanation of the entire dolphin motion and why the motion starts where it does.
Motion starts at the head, entire body is involved.
300
What are the surface dives and how are they performed?
Feet first: Feet together, hands at side move up with straight arms to head to push body downwards. Tuck: Tuck into ball and get head underneath body and feet above body. Extend feet above water to push body downwards. May move hands from hips to head to start rotation necessary to get head down/feet up. Pike: Same as tuck but with straight unbent legs. Forward momentum helps.
400
For what distance are Level 1 students required to perform most of their skills?
Two body lengths.
400
You have a class of 3 Level 2 students and 1 Level 1 student. The level 1 student can swim independently but is unable to put his face in the water. How would you organize the class when learning the skill of "combined arm and leg action on front for 5 body lengths".
Use a tool such as a barbell or kick board and have the Level 1 student blow bubbles at least. All students should be participating together though as they are all able to work on learning this skill. The level one will just require some form of support to keep his head out of the water while the other students have their faces in the water, hopefully unsupported.
400
Your student is proficient in all of the required strokes for level 4 but is unable to meet the distance requirements. Should you pass this student to Level 5? Why or why not.
No, Level 5 will overwhelm them and will hold the rest of the class back. Work on improving endurance and fine tuning the strokes until they are better able to meet the stroke distance requirements.
400
You have a Level 4 and a Level 5 in your class. What are going to be the main differences between the two students and how would you organize the class in order to overcome these obstacles.
Level 5 will have much more endurance. Keep the distances traveled around half a pool length. Table in the middle helps. Teaching out of water if Level 4 is proficient enough to swim independently but be ready to get in the water. Discipline will be very important as children can/will be at different parts of the pool.

What are the exit skills for level 1?
1. Enter independently, using either the ladder, steps, or side, travel at least 5 yards, bob 3 times then safely exit the water, (Participants can walk, move along the gutter or "swim.) 2. Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 3 seconds and recover to a vertical position. This part of the assessment can be performed with support.
500
What are the exit skills for Level 2?
1. Step from side into chest-deep water, move into a front fl oat for 5 seconds, roll to back, fl oat for 5 seconds then return to a vertical position. 2. Move into a back fl oat for 5 seconds, roll to front then recover to a vertical position. 3. Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to the front then continue swimming for 5 body lengths. (You can assist the participant when taking a breath.)

What are the exit skills for level ?
Jump into the deep water from the side, swim front crawl for 15 yards, maintain position by treading or floating for 30 seconds and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards.
500
What are the exit skills for Level 4?
1. Perform a feetfirst entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. 2. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim back crawl for 15 yards.
500
What are the exit skills for Level 5?
1. Perform a shallow-angle dive into deep water, swim front crawl for 50 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 50 yards. 2. Swim breaststroke for 25 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary and swim back crawl for 25 yards.
