Can Representative Payees create accounts for beneficiaries?

What is No?

At this time we are not offering access to our services to Representative Payees on behalf of other individuals. This also applies to appointed representatives or someone who has business with that person, even if you have his or her written consent.

If a customer has blocked electronic access to his or her record, can we use RCS to restore access?

What is yes?

Social Security personnel can block and unblock all electronic access to online services using RCS. For more information on using RCS to block and unblock electronic access, see OA 00101.050.

The phrase "Out-of-Wallet" means the responses are probably not in the documents commonly carried in the customer’s wallet. The ISP builds the OOW questions from prior addresses, phone numbers, employment history, or credit information.

Is my Social Security only for customers who currently have records established with SSA?

Our registration and authentication process, which provides access to my Social Security and other online services, such as the Online Statement, is not only intended for customers who currently have records established with SSA, but it is also for members of the general public who meet the following requirements:

- Must be 18 years of age or older;
- Must have an email address;
- Must have an SSN; and
- Must have a domestic address

If you have your my Social Security account, can you request your BEVE in mail?

What is yes?


A: Yes; however, the option to “mail” the BEVE letter is revealed only when users select “Can’t print or save this letter?" This is to discourage the use of mail, and encourage printing and saving the letter. Additionally, users who select the “mail me a copy” will not have the option to mail more than one copy per session.

Can a person receiving auxiliary benefits open a my Social Security account?

What is yes?

a person entitled as an auxiliary can register for a my Social Security provided he or she is above the age of 18. Keep in mind, however, that authenticating a person’s identity is based on their OWN SSN – and that is the number they should use to register. The system is dynamic enough to read all of their possible entitlements and then bring them together in the “Overview” and “Check Your Benefits” portions of my Social Security. For example, if a person was receiving child benefits on a parent’s record as a Disabled Adult Child, and also received Supplement Security income, information about both payments would show up on his or her my Social Security account, even though they are paid under different SSNs.

Who can update their address information?

What is Title 2, Title 16 and Title 18 beneficiaries without Representative Payees?

The My Change of Address application allows TII and TXVIII beneficiaries without representative payees to update their contact information. All other beneficiaries and recipients can view their contact information, including their representative payee’s information (if any), via the My Profile Tab on my Social Security?.

We issue a one-time use code to a customer who requests access in person. This code allows the customer to go online and create a User UD. We always mail the activation code to the address of record, and can in most circumstances, can issue the code in person.

If a married couple shares an email account, will they both be able to establish their own my Social Security accounts by listing
the same e-mail address, or will my Social Security registration be limited to the first person who registers using that common

If a family shares an email address, each person will be able to establish his or her own my Social Security accounts by listing the common email address. There is no registration exclusion related to email addresses.

If a customer is already registered and calls the FO or TSC because he or she can't remember his or her Username, should the employee
disclose it?

What is oh, no big no no?

Employees should follow OA 00210.050 Electronic Access Automated Password Reset, Username Recall, and Cell Phone Reset Section C, in situations where the customer forgot or doesn't not have his or her username. The employee should direct the customer to the "Sign In" page, select the “Forgot Username” link and follow the recall process. If the customer reports trying and still not being able to retrieve the username, then refer him or her to the FO. We plan on issuing a clarifying instruction in POMS. The username recall feature is for online users, since we consider there to be a security risk in disclosing usernames over the phone.
