Right and left cone-shaped organs in the thoracic cavity.
What is Lungs.
Common passageway for food and air. Also known as the throat.
What is Pharynx.
A viral infection characterized by inflammation of the mucous membrane in the respiratory system
What is Influenza
Area where oxygen enters the body, is lined with tiny hairs called cilia and mucous membrane that secretes sticky fluid.
What is Nasal Cavity
Ciliated passageway that extends from larynx to bronchi. Also known as windpipe.
What is Trachea
Cavities lined with mucous membranes. Located in the bones of the skull and around the nasal region.
What is Sinuses.
The lower end of the trachea. Divides into right and left.
What is Bronchi?
Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea and the bronchial tubes which produces excessive mucous

Brings air in just like the nose
What is Oral Cavity
Single layer of epithelial cells.
What is Alveoli
The temporary stoppage of respiration
What is Apnea
Double layered membrane covering the lungs.
What is Pleura
Difficult, labored or painful breathing, usually accompanied by discomfort and breathlessness
What is Dyspnea
Routes air coming in your nose and mouth down to your larynx.
What is Pharynx
Involves the use of oxygen to release energy stored in nutrient molecules like glucose.
What is Cellular Respiration
Normal or easy breathing.
What is Eupnea
Increase in the depth and rate of breathing.
What is Hyperpnea
Abnormally rapid and shallow breathing.
What is Tachypnea
The branching system of bronchi and bronchioles, conducting air from the windpipe into the lungs.
What is Bronchial Tree
Breathing or ventilation. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs, body and the outside environment.
What is External Respiration.
Infection of the lungs caused by a virus or bacteria.
What is Pneumonia
The exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen between cells and the lymph surrounding them.
What is Internal respiration
The Respiratory center. Located in the brain. It is subdivided into two centers. One to regulate inspiration and the other for expiratory control.
What is Medulla Oblongata
Works with the lungs during the breathing process. Protects the lungs and expands as we inhale.
