To participate in an academic and cultural exchange in another country, to improve my language skills, to learn about different cultures and to share my culture with others.
What is the purpose of the program?
Host families can vary greatly from my own. They may be married, single, retired, have children or not have children. Their socioeconomic level may be different than my own too. I must make every effort to adjust and spend a ____________ amount of __________ with them.
What is reasonable, time?
I have friends and family members who live in the US. I’m going to go visit them over winter break. Is that allowed?

While riding in a car in the US, I must wear this. Not wearing it might cause serious injury in an accident. It is also illegal not to wear it.

I must attend school daily and be on time, unless I have a doctor’s note. Skipping school or classes or getting suspended or expelled might have ETC program consequences as well. Who is responsible for this?
What is I am (aka the student, mine, just can’t be anything that indicates someone else is responsible for you!)?
To learn the language and customs of the US and understand the economic and lifestyle differences, I must __________.
What is adapt?
Host family might impose strict rules on me, like asking permission to go place and being home by a certain time. In America this is common for teenagers and is called _________.

I am to limit the contact that I have with my family and friends in my home country because I am on this program to use and learn English. The time limit for home country communication per week is ____________.

In an emergency or hospitalization, this is when I will contact my Local Coordinator and the ETC home office.

What is US History and English?

This is an academic program and I am here to study and learn. Therefore, my grades are expected to be at this level or above. If they aren’t, my Local Coordinator can help arrange a tutor.

Someone who is held to a higher standard by ETC, has the privilege of participating as an exchange student and who has strong academic skills and maturity.
What is an ambassador?
Host families volunteer and you shouldn’t discuss their financial situation or family matters with anyone outside the home. My host family gets paid __________ dollars to host me.
