Duty-Based- Duty to Report
Virtue Based- The emphasis is on the character and integrity of the social worker, guiding their interactions and promoting a supportive environment for the client’s growth.
Outcome Based- A school counselor is working with a student who is struggling with bullying. The counselor considers two approaches:
Confronting the Bully: The counselor could directly confront the bully in front of their peers, which might immediately stop the bullying behavior. However, this could lead to retaliation against the student and create a hostile environment.
Implementing a Support Program: Alternatively, the counselor could develop a support program that includes workshops on empathy and conflict resolution for the entire class. While this takes longer to implement, the expected outcome is a more lasting culture of respect and reduced bullying overall.
In this scenario, the counselor opts for the second approach, believing that fostering a positive school environment will yield better long-term results for all students involved. The decision is based on evaluating the potential consequences of each action and choosing the one that promotes the greatest overall benefit for the community.
