The Passover was when the Israelites smeared blood of a pure lamb over their doors, so that the angel of death would not kill the household's first born son. This occurred originally because of the curses that god had placed in Egypt, so that eventually the Israelites could escape and trek across the desert for 40 years until they reached the Promise land.
