He would be captured and enslaved by the Coahuiltecan natives with 3 other Spaniards. They would later escape. After removing an arrowhead from a man’s chest, the group became famous as healers. In 1536, he and his companions would find a group of Spanish soldiers who took them to Mexico City. He would then return to Spain and write about his adventures in North America.

He returned to San Antonio de Valero Mission and asked to be allowed to work with the Apaches however his request was denied.
