Systematic and objective assessment of an ongoing or completed project
What is program evaluation?
Using creative activities (i.e. storytelling, poetry, etc.) as a way of expressing value
What is arts-based evaluation?
A research method used for collecting data from a pre-defined group of respondents to gain information and insights on various topics of interest.
What is a survey?
1. establish clear outcomes
2. create or modify data tools or systems
3. analyze the data
4. use the data to make informed decisions
What are the steps involved in program evaluation?
Express complex ideas
Encourage participants to share their feelings.
Generate materials (drawings, poems, collages, etc.) to be used in final reports
What are some of the objectives of arts-based evaluation?
Audience (age and education), length, and data extraction.
What are things to consider when designing a survey?
Pre-project evaluation
Ongoing evaluation
Post-project evaluation
What are the types of program evaluation?
Outputs are difficult to interpret. It is time and resource consuming.
What are some challenges with arts-based evaluation?
They are extensive (i.e. a large amount of data in a short time period), low cost (many free survey sites for the data generated), precise and accurate (if designed properly).
What are the benefits to using surveys (as an evaluation tool)?
Focus groups
Surveys
Interviews
What are evaluation tools?
At the beginning (i.e. memory box), in the middle, (i.e. collage) and at the end (i.e. rotating mural).
When can arts-based evaluation be used (wrt duration of the project/program)?
By providing this, it can increase response rate especially when conducting long surveys and it is a way to thank participants for their time. However, it can be costly.
What is incentivization?
