What is the Technical Review Committee?
This acronym is defines the basic outline for all courses and must be reviewed and updated at least every five years.
What is the COR? (Course Outline of Record)
Courses within this number range are identified by Gavilan's course numbering system as being baccalaureate level.
What is 1-99?
This person is the faculty representative to the Academic Senate who is responsible for coordinating the Curriculum Committee agendas and processes at Gavilan College.
Who is the Curriculum Chair?
Gavilan College policy requires that each course is reviewed and updated within this timeframe in order to be active and included in the schedule of classes.
What is five years?
After a proposal is reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Committee, it is next approved by this person.
Who is the Vice President of Academic Affairs? (VPAA)
This handbook, prepared by the CCC Chancellor's Office, provides guidelines and instructions for the submission of curriculum for approval and maintenance.
What is the PCAH? (Program and Course Approval Handbook.)
These courses are not part of an approved program.
What are "stand alone" courses?
This person is responsible for ensuring Gavilan's courses will transfer to the UC/CSU systems in specific categories of general education and major preparation.
Who is the Articulation Officer?
This portion of the California Code of Regulations interprets (Community College) Ed Code into regulations, determined by Board of Governors
What is Title 5?
Before being sent to the Chancellor's Office, this body reviews all Gavilan curriculum.
What is the Board of Trustees?
This acronym refers to the statewide common course number system used to identify comparable courses within the California community college system.
What is C-ID?
This term defines conditions of enrollment that students are required to meet prior to enrollment in particular courses and programs.
What is a prerequisite?
This person serves an interface between Gavilan College, Curriqunet, and the Chancellors Office. S/he ensures that all timelines are followed, documentation is accurate, and local data systems are up to date.
Who is the Curriculum Specialist?
In order for a course to be articulated for transfer, this must be current within five years.
What is the textbook?
Before having a formal CSU Breadth or IGETC General Ed designation, courses must first go through this process.
What is articulation?
This online system provides the details of inter-institutional transfer of courses as they apply to general education and program majors.
What is ASSIST?
This portion of a proposal requires documentation of the student need that is being met.
What is the Justification/Need?
This person is responsible for reviewing all proposals that have online components.
Who is the Distance Ed Coordinator?
These programs require evidence of labor market need and must be reviewed every two years.
What is career education? (CTE or CE)
Courses that have not been updated within the required five year timeframe are placed on this list and cannot be scheduled until updated.
What is the Suspension List?
This term refers to the "pattern" of general education that the community colleges can use to certify lower division general education for both a UC and a CSU.
What is IGETC? (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum)
This formula determines out-of-class hours required for a lecture course.
What is two hours of out-of-class assignments for each hour of in-class instruction? (Carnegie unit)
This is the first person responsible for reviewing a proposal after it is submitted by the author/initiator.
Who is the department chair?
This is the minimum number of units required for any degree, including AA, AS, and AD-T.
