Believing in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us.
All scripture is given by God and is useful to us in what four ways?
doctrine (teaching us how God wants us to live)
reproof (teaching us what is sinful)
correction (showing us how to correct sinful behavior)
instruction in righteousness (teaching us how to live a life that is good and right)
Who is our greatest example of how to be a servant of God?
What does it mean to "witness"?
Give evidence. If you are a witness, you give evidence about something you observed. When you decided to trust in Jesus as your savior, and every day since, you have been witness to something amazing! If you understand and believe what Jesus has done for you, you give evidence of that in what you say and do.
Talking and listening to God.
What is worship?
Anything we do to show God we love Him and how important He is to us.
True or false: Being in fellowship with other Christians means we should always agree on everything.
False: We should strive to be agreeable, seeking to find common ground in the scripture, but all relationships will have times of struggle. The goal of fellowship is to have healthy relationships with other Christians.
What are 5 ways Paul told Timothy, and us, we could be an example or witness to others?
1. word (the way we speak)
2. conduct (what we do)
3. love (the way we treat others)
4. spirit (our belief in God and how it affects our life)
5. purity (choosing not to sin)
How does our faith grow?
As we learn more about God and love Him more, our faith will grow. Often our faith is tested and strengthened by going through hard things with God.
Give 3 examples of how you can worship God.
Singing songs to Him, prayers of thankfulness, obeying His word, having a good attitude, etc.
Serving God is about more than just the things we do; it is also about having a _____________.
(Hint: Mr. Larry reminds us of this every week!)
Good attitude! When we love and serve God, we do it with our hearts and minds as much as our hands and feet. Doing something nice, but with a grumpy attitude, defeats the point. We should think of others before ourselves and do the right things with a good attitude.
True or false: The best way to witness to people who don't know Jesus is by telling them your testimony (your personal story of coming to know Jesus).
False: Sharing your testimony is ONE way to witness, but we are witnesses to those around us all the time by the things we say and choose to do.
When should we pray and what should we pray for?
All the time and everything!
True or False: If you read the Bible all the way through, then you'll know everything there is to know about God.
False: It's called "studying" for a reason! We should read the Bible with the intent of knowing it (memorizing verses) and understanding it (researching and finding connections). This requires reading it often and digging deep!
Sharing a meal with them, asking for or giving forgiveness, praying for them, encouraging them, etc.
How is witnessing like shining a light in the darkness?
Sin and evil are like darkness; when we choose to serve others in love and speak and act in a way that is pleasing to God, we shine a light into that darkness. The evidence of our faith can light up the world!
Faith and prayer:
Which one of these is required to be saved?
Faith. Prayer is a way of talking to God and growing closer to Him. To be saved, we only need to believe in Jesus and what He has done for us.
Which statement is true?
*Studying God's word is a way to worship.
- OR -
*Worship is a way to study God's word.
Both are true!
We can show God how much we love Him by studying His word regularly. We can also study scripture through worship - the Bible contains songs (psalms) and many worship songs are based on scripture passages.
Serving and fellowship have a thing or two in common. What is one way that serving and fellowship are similar?
They both require a good attitude.
You can fellowship with other Christians by serving them (bring them a meal, write an encouraging note, etc.)
They both require you to think of others first.
Name the 7 evidences of grace in your life we discussed in this unit.
Faith, prayer, studying God's word, worship, serving, fellowship, and witness.
