The BRONCUS trial was a multi-center, randomized, placebo-controlled study that investigated the effectiveness of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The trial aimed to determine if NAC could slow the rate of decline in lung function (FEV1) and reduce the yearly rate of COPD exacerbations, with cost-utility also being a consideration.
