What is the function of the heart
To receive deoxygenated blood from the body and to pump oxygenated blood to the body
All blood goes to the heart via what blood vesses
Veins
What is the function of the lungs
To bring oxygen in and exhale carbon dioxide out
List structures of central nervous system
Brain and spinal cord
What organ does the brain communicate with to evoke the fight or flight
Adrenal glands
The right Atrium
The right Ventricle
All blood leaves the heart by what vessels
Arteries
What is the primary tube that oxygen must first travel in order for gas to enter and leave the lungs
Trachea
How many hemispheres of the brain are there
2, the right and the left hemispheres
What hormones do the adrenal glands produce
Epinephrine
Norephrine
Where does blood go when it leaves the right ventricle
Blood is transported to the lungs via the pulmonary artery
What is the connection between the smallest artery and the smalles vein called
Capillaries
List, in order, the pathway oxygen must use to enter the lungs
Nasopharynx, Oral pharynx, Larynx, trachea, bronchus right and left, bronchioles, alveoli
What is the function of the medulla
Regulates vegetative functions such as the heart rate, respiratory rate, and vasomotor
What are the properties of Epinephrine
A1 Vasoconstriction, which makes skin cool and pale and - Increased sweat production, which makes skin clammy or moist
A2 -Regulates alpha1 effects
B1 -Increased heart rate, contractility, and speed of cardiac electrical conduction
B2 -Smooth muscle relaxation and - Dilates bronchioles and blood vessels
How is blood transported in the lungs
The pulmonary artery goes to the arteriole and connects with the capillary bed, picks up oxygen and then it exits to the venule and passes to the pulmonary vein which goes back up the bronchioles to the heart. From there it enters the left atrium via the pulmonary vein. Blood is now oxygenated
What are the valve's of the heart
Tricuspid
Pulmonary
Mitral (Bicuspid)
Aortic
Where is oxygen exchanged at?
At the pulmonary capillaries and at the systemic capillaries
What is the sympathetic nervous system?
Fight or flight (illness or traumas)
What nerve stimulates the diagphram
Phrenic nerve located between C3--C5
What part of the heart pumps oxygenated blood to the body
The left ventricle
What is the purpose of heart vavles
What is the primary stimulus to breath
Hyper Capnia, too much carbon dioxide
What is the function of the parasympathetic nervous system
Rest and relax
What is the reticular activating system and where is it located
The RAS is the on off switch of the mental status. It is a group of nerves located in the brain stem. For the patient to be in a conscious or awake state, the RAS and at least one cerebral hemisphere must be intact and functioning
