The central government couldn't fulfill any of its duties with no money and none of the states were willing to donate money.
How did the US come to purchase the Louisiana territory?
Napoleon was broke in his war with Britain and France wasn't really doing anything with their North American land anyways, so he offered Jefferson more land.
What was the Corrupt Bargain?
The term coined by Jefferson to describe what happened after no one won the electoral vote of 1824. John Quincy Adams told Henry Clay to have him and his friends vote for him instead of Jackson for president. In return Adams would give them jobs in the government.
What caused "Bleeding Kansas"?
Popular sovereignty had been enacted in the Kansas territory, meaning a popular vote among the residents of the territory to determine if it would be admitted as a slave state or not. Residents from the north and south rushed into Kansas to influence the outcome of the vote. The result was an all out war between civilians.

Because Jefferson had a strict interpretation of the Constitution and the Constitution does not give the President the direct power of purchasing land.
Why is Jackson such as controversial President?
People like his becuase he stood for the common man, against a strong central government, and was a war hero. People don't like that he drove the economy into a recession, caused a mass exodus of Native Americans on the trail of tears, and was a slave owner
What was the Wilmont Proviso and why was it introduced?
A footnote in legislation that declared all territory gained from the Mexican-American War would be admitted as free states. This was put in because David Wilmont wanted for California to be a place for white Pennsylvanians to find work and to also reduce the power of the south in congress.
What was the 10% plan?
Lincoln's plan to readmit the south to the union. A state could be admitted once 10% of its voting population took an oath of royalty.
