Define a TRP

Target Reference Point

  • An easily recognizable point on the ground (either natural or man-made) used to initiate, distribute, and control fires. TRPs are designated by maneuver leaders from platoon through battalion to define battalion, company, platoon, section, squad, or individual sectors of fire and observation usually within an engagement area.

O: Orientation (Cardinal direction, South)

O: Occupation method (Crows foot, bent L, etc.)

T: Tactical Control Measures (TCMs) this includes every TCM to get the platoon from the Assembly Area to the defense and every TCM within the defense (TRPs, Trigger lines, etc.)

S: Security plan (Security postures such as stand-to, LP/OPs, patrolling efforts, etc.)

Of the six offensive forms of maneuver, list at least 3 and describe what they are.

1. Frontal

2. Flanking

3. Envelopment (main attacking force passes around or over the enemy’s principal defensive positions to secure objectives at the enemy’s rear)

4. Turning Movement (This differs from envelopment in two ways. First, the friendly force does not engage the enemy in their current position, but seeks displacement. Second, friendly forces normally rely on external support, such as aerial resupply, to accomplish their mission)

5. Infiltration (Moving and assembling forces covertly through enemy positions)

6. Penetration (

seeks to rupture enemy defenses on a narrow front to disrupt the defensive system)
