Why does the South Pole never experience daylight on June 21st?

On June 21st it is one of the two solstices, which is when the Earth is tilted the farthest away from the Sun in one of the hemispheres. In June, the Southern Hemisphere is angled away and the South Pole would never be able to rotate into the area of the Earth experiencing daylight due to the angle of the Earth's rotation and the Earth's location relative to the Sun.

Describe 3 properties that you could test for in order to discover the identity of an unknown liquid, assuming you have lab equipment available.

You need to test for characteristic properties, which are ones that help you determine the identity of the substance.

Melting Point, Boiling Point, pH, density, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity would all be good choices.

Mass, volume, temperature, etc. would not tell you the identity of the substance.

500

How do you determine the volume of a small irregular solid.

1. Fill up a graduated cylinder with water and record the volume.

2. Drop the irregular solid into the graduated cylinder.

3. Record the new volume of the water.

4. Determine the difference between the original volume and the new volume, and record as the volume of the water displaced.

5. Convert between mL and cm3 as the object is a solid, and record the volume.
