How often do you pay out to my bank account?

We process payouts every business day, and the 24-hour batch cut-off can be adjusted to fit the business.

Standard timing is T+2 by default (Monday's transactions arrive Wednesday).

The T+2 schedule covers all payment methods, including Amex, which can take T+5/7 with legacy providers.

Faster Sales Day Payouts (T+1 or T+0) are available for an additional fee.

100

Do you have a prebuilt plugin for my ecommerce platform?

Yes: Adyen has prebuilt plugins for the major e-commerce platforms (for example Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, commercetools).

Most of the integration work is already done: the merchant reconnects the platform to Adyen and customizes if they want; the plugins are built on Checkout Components (Drop-in, Components or the Checkout API).

Benefits: faster go-live, lower development cost and fast global expansion with local payment methods, especially for teams with limited development resources.

Getting started: confirm a plugin exists for the platform, follow the setup guide (API credentials, webhook URL, origin whitelisting) and test in the test environment before going live.

100

Can you set up a call with your technical support team?

Yes, a call with the technical team can be arranged, once it is clear the call is necessary.

Point them to the public Docs site (docs.adyen.com), the 'Adyen encyclopedia', which has the answer to most questions.

If they still cannot get the answer there, they are a good fit (qualified), and they are committed to using adyen or are between 2-3 options including adyen then we can set up the meeting.

100

What is 3DS?

3D Secure is an extra authentication step for card-not-present purchases (redirect to a banking app or a text code).

It is mandatory under European regulation and optional elsewhere to reduce fraud.

Adyen helps with compliance and with balancing friction versus authorization, for example letting trusted shoppers skip authentication.

Adyen's AI risk engines, tuned with the account manager, personalize risk rules; 3DS is charged per transaction, so run a cost-benefit against chargebacks.

100

If a sub-merchant has a payments issue, will they contact you directly?

By default, no: the platform (the merchant of record or partner) is the first line of contact and handles day-to-day issues, onboarding and terminal operations for its sub-merchants.

Sub-merchants do not have access to the Adyen Customer Area to log requests or raise tickets directly.

For escalated technical issues or complex bank and payout inquiries the platform cannot resolve, the platform's support or operations team raises a ticket with Adyen on the sub-merchant's behalf.

The exception is an opt-in paid service, First Line Sub-Merchant Support and First Line Terminal Support (about €5 per merchant or terminal per month), where Adyen agents take sub-merchant or franchisee calls directly; it is not the default.

200

What currencies can you accept, and what currencies can you settle in?

We accept over 187 currencies and settle in 37.

Available currencies depend on the merchant's acquiring region; we are present in most countries, so no juggling of local providers.

It is all under one contract, but Adyen does not replace the need for a legal entity; it removes the need to stitch together acquirers in each market.

Like for like: We process locally and settle in the currency the merchant needs, which avoids extra FX fees.

200

Can I make a change to the contract you sent me?

Yes: the agreement is a two-way conversation and must be mutually agreed.

The merchant marks up whatever changes they want and sends them back; Adyen routes them to its legal team, who come back with a yes or no.

The contract is industry standard, already trusted by industry leaders and global enterprises.

200

Some of our brands only have domestic volumes. Why choose Adyen?

Typical pain Adyen solves for: a fragmented setup across online, in store and in app, with systems that do not talk to each other.

Customer proof: Simons (Canada's family-owned fashion retailer) consolidated a fragmented multi-provider setup where e-commerce and POS did not talk, enabling buy online and return in store.

Full in-house stack: Adyen is acquirer, processor and gateway, so no third-party hand-offs, plus direct scheme connections.

Domestic merchants still get features built for global enterprises, and a dedicated account manager with better payment data.

200

Can you explain how Pay by Link works?

The merchant generates a unique URL (or QR code) that opens a secure, Adyen-hosted checkout page where the customer pays remotely.

The link can be sent through any channel (email, SMS, social media, PDF) or shown to the shopper as a QR code.

It keeps the merchant PCI compliant: no card details are taken over the phone or stored insecurely.

Three ways to create links:

1. manually in the Customer Area (no development)

2. in the iOS app for in-store staff (link plus QR code)

3. through an API integration that automates links from systems like a CRM or ERP (needs development).

200

Who carries the customer and payment risk in your platform solution?

By default the platform bears the customer and payment risk, because Adyen's contract is with the platform, not the sub-merchants.

The platform owns the relationship with its sub-merchants, including fraud and chargebacks.

Managed Risk is the option where Adyen carries the risk instead, for a fee.

With Managed Risk the platform gives up the right to customize risk settings.

300

What is Interchange++

It breaks every transaction into three parts: interchange (set by the issuing bank, variable), scheme fee (set by Visa, Mastercard and others, variable) and Adyen's processing fee/markup (fixed).

It is the most transparent model.

With blended pricing, foreign or credit-heavy mixes inflate the rate and local or debit customers subsidize them; with IC++ you pay only what each transaction costs.

The merchant benefits from any drop in interchange or scheme fees, and there are no setup or implementation fees.

300

How long does it take to go live?

As fast as the merchant wants to go; three things must be in place: a signed commercial agreement, the technical integration and compliance (KYC) approval.

They happen in parallel: the dev team builds in a Sandbox test account while commercials are negotiated and compliance runs in the background.

The range is wide: Oh My Cream went live in about a week, while larger organizations with complex roadmaps have taken a year, depending on internal prioritization.

Adyen charges only per live transaction, so it is in Adyen's interest to get the merchant live quickly and it provides the resources to do so.

300

Why does it matter that you have a banking licence?

Direct control over the flow of funds: Adyen bypasses intermediaries and connects directly to schemes and local clearing systems.

No third-party bank dependency, which means faster settlement and payouts, simpler reconciliation and lower operational risk.

Funds stay inside Adyen's ecosystem, which makes acquiring safer, cheaper and more transparent (Interchange++ on local rails).

It enables embedded financial products (Capital, Issuing, business accounts) on one platform, and Adyen carries the heavy compliance (KYC/AML).

300

What are your digital checkout options?

Drop-in: an out-of-the-box single UI component for the fastest go-live; good for limited dev resources.

Components: flexible building blocks (card field, wallet button) that match the brand; good for some dev resources.

API only: full control with a backend-to-backend integration where the merchant builds the entire front end; for dedicated dev teams.

All three can carry the merchant's logo and colours; the choice depends on dev resources and speed, and Adyen helps with compliance.

300

Walk me through fees charged to sub-merchants and the kickback we get.

Adyen does not charge sub-merchants directly; it charges the platform.

The platform pays transaction fees (processing, markup, interchange, scheme) plus AFP fees (KYC, payouts, balance transfers).

Buy rate and sell rate: the platform sets its own pricing to sub-merchants and keeps the spread (for example Adyen charges 0.50%, the platform charges 1%, platform keeps 0.50%).

The platform owns the data and the book of business.

400

When do I get charged and how do I read my invoice?

Net settlement: fees are deducted automatically from the transaction/payout, so the merchant is not billed out of pocket.

A consolidated monthly invoice is generated at month end and available in the Customer Area.

The invoice is a true-up of the month: fees already deducted versus fees calculated; the difference is the amount due.

Reporting makes reconciliation easy by covering all payment methods in one place.

400

Can you explain Adyen's account structure? (UC and Digital)

The company account is the global view: it holds the contract, users and aggregate reporting.

Merchant accounts separate traffic by country or sales channel (for example 'Canada e-com' versus 'US retail').

Stores and terminals are the physical locations or devices (not needed for digital-only merchants).

Why it is built this way: local control (different payout currencies or risk rules per business), clean reporting (online and POS sorted automatically) and granular access (a CFO sees everything, a store manager sees only their store).

400

I already have a gateway. Can I use Adyen just for acquiring?

Acknowledge the existing gateway setup, then position Adyen as acquirer, processor and gateway in one.

Redundancy in payments adds friction and inefficiency, Re-pitch the single solution.

Proof: Burberry consolidated 80+ contracts to fewer than 10 with better reconciliation and auth rates.

Offer to earn the business by starting with a smaller market.

400

How can I set up subscription payments?

Billing partners such as Chargebee, Recurly and Zuora have direct integrations: switch the payment processor to Adyen; the partner manages the billing schedule and Adyen handles payments.

In-house billing engines (like Netflix or Spotify) use the Adyen API and tokenization to store cards and charge on a schedule.

Adyen also helps with involuntary churn (failed payments), for example account updater.

Orb (billing for usage-based and AI-native companies): the acquisition closed July 1, 2026 and it is live as a partner integration, with two integrations and two contracts; no single API or unified dashboard yet.

400

What is Interchange minus minus?

It is how Issuing is priced.

Interchange is a cost when accepting payments (Interchange++) but becomes revenue when you issue cards.

The issuer earns interchange minus scheme fees minus issuing costs.

The interchange is split between Adyen and the merchant (favourable to the merchant); exact terms are covered in the commercial conversation.

500

What is the exchange rate if I accept in one currency and get paid out in another?

Adyen charges a conversion fee when the accepted currency and payout currency differ.

Visa and Mastercard: the scheme rate plus a 0.3% (30 bps) Adyen markup.

Other schemes: the Refinitiv rate plus 0.9% for standard currencies or 1.8% for non-standard currencies.

The rate is locked at capture for Visa/Mastercard and at settlement for other methods.

Like-for-like settlement (accept and settle in the same currency) means no FX fee.

500

Which POS terminal would you recommend, how do I order, and how much do they cost?

There is no one-size-fits-all terminal

Options: Mobile (Sephora), Countertop (Le Maison Simons), Standalone (uniqulo), tap to pay (Solamon)

Hardware is loaded with Adyen's software, so it is encrypted, unified with online payments and supports local payment methods in person, with remote updates pushed automatically.

Ordering: Terminal Fleet Manager in the Customer Area (choose country and location, add devices to the cart); it typically ships within 2 business days with tracking, and the dashboard shows each terminal's status and inventory.

Prices vary by model and region, so they are covered in a spec sheet or the commercial conversation, where buyback options can also be discussed.

500

How is Adyen different from other payment providers?

  1. Enterprise focus: built for complex payment problems of large merchants.
  2. One in-house platform: Adyen is acquirer, processor and gateway, built 100% in-house and not through M&A, giving end-to-end control and faster innovation.
  3. Omnichannel: online, in store and in app on one platform with a single customer view, simpler reconciliation and fraud management (for example buy online, return in store).
  4. Global: one integration and one contract, with local acquiring to reduce fees and lift approval rates.
  5. Account management (account, implementation and product optimization managers) is included at no extra cost.
  6. Banking licence: faster settlement, direct scheme access, and embedded financial products.
500

What is Adyen Uplift?

A unified optimization engine that improves conversion, fraud and cost together, without forcing trade-offs between them.

Five modules: Tokenize, Protect, Authenticate, Optimize and Personalize (with a one-line purpose for at least three of them).

Pilot results: payment conversion up to 6%, manual risk rules reduced by up to 86%, and payment costs reduced by up to 6%.

Network effect: an 84% chance a shopper who is new to a merchant has already been seen on Adyen, which powers smarter decisions.

500

What interest do you charge on capital loans, and do you share it with us?

There is no interest: the sub-merchant pays a one-off fixed fee (the notes say typically 7% to 15%).

The platform receives a share of that fee as revenue, and Adyen keeps the rest.

Adyen carries all the credit risk, so the platform has no financial liability.

Repayment is automatic: a fixed percentage of daily sales processed through Adyen, so merchants pay as they earn.
