Originally founded by Erwin Baur (the bust in House 1) in 1928, called “Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Züchtungsforschung”. Part of the institute moved to different places in Germany during and after WWII. The part of the institut left in Müncheberg kept on research, focusing on soil and agricultural studies.In 1992 after the German Unification the institute was newly founded with the name “ZALF”.
