This woman, determined to become an airplane pilot, made that dream come true in spite of many obstacles. After being repeatedly rejected by flight schools, since back in the 1920s, an African-American female pilot was unheard of, she decided to apply to an aviation school in France, where her race would not be a deterrent. So she learned French, and completed a 7-month training course, becoming the first Black woman to fly an airplane and also the first African American to earn an international pilot's license.
