What is the fight, flight, freeze response?

WHen a person thinks that something dangerous is going to happen, their body makes chemicals that help them to fight off the danger or run away from the or get very still and freeze. The fight, flight or freeze response can protect you when there is real danger--say if there is an aggressive dog. It can be a problem with there is no real danger. For example, if a person is afraid of dogs. Pretend you are afraid of dogs for a moment. Lets say you are at the park and there are a bunch of dogs.  The dogs arent doing anything dangerous or aggressive. But--because you are afraid of dogs, you think the dog is dangerous. You might react in one of 3 ways. (1) fight -you hitor kick the dog (2)flight you run away from the dog (3) Freeze --you are unable to move

Therapy can help you learn ways to tell your brain and body to react differently so you can cope better with scary situations.
