(When we or someone close to us is feeling desperate and/or violated)
These words are typically at the lower end of the anger spectrum. Usually you feel this way when someone has said something wrong or mildly offensive, or an object/situation is giving you more trouble than you've had with it before.
Annoyed or Frustrated
These words are what you might feel when you mess up something you're trying to say, or if you do something silly accidentally, like trip in the hallway or drop your phone.
Sheepish or Embarrassed
These words are on the lower end of the sadness spectrum. You might feel this way if you don't get an item you wanted or if exciting plans get cancelled.
Disappointed or Bummed
These words are on the lower end of the joy spectrum. You may feel these things if your life feels normal, if you are not experiencing anything negative at the moment, or if you are doing something pleasant.
Content, Peaceful, or Relaxed
These words describe what you might feel if you have a big test approaching or if you are going to start a conversation with someone you don't know well.
Uncertain, Nervous, or Uneasy
These words are one step above annoyed or frustrated. Usually if you're feeling these, someone has doubled down on whatever they said that annoyed you, or maybe they continue to argue with you. Or, whatever situation/object that was giving you trouble has gotten worse and you're running out of solutions.
Irritated or Aggravated
These words are a step beyond feeling kind of embarrassed. You might feel this if you've said/done something to bring mildly negative attention to yourself, or if you say/do something that you don't like or doesn't fit with your usual character.
Inadequate or Insecure
These words describe a little bit more sorrow than the first question in this category. You might feel these words if something you've been really hoping and/or trying for doesn't happen, or if something happens that you really didn't want.
Discouraged or Upset
Fulfilled, Proud, or Accepted
These words describe feelings you may have if you are in a situation such as bringing up a difficult topic with someone you care about, being unsure whether a particular bit of news is going to be good or bad, or participating in a type of competition/project that requires someone else to judge the results.
Worried, Concerned, or Apprehensive
These words are in the middle of the anger spectrum. You're past the feeling of something being a mild inconvenience, but you're not quite angry enough to completely explode. This is where you might start to feel yourself getting warm, start flexing your jaw or muscles, or feel like your stomach or blood is starting to bubble.
Mad or Exasperated
These words are sort of in the middle of the spectrum. They are feelings you might experience if you've said/done something you think is wrong, or if you've hurt someone else, whether it was intentional hurt or not.
Ashamed, Condemned, or Disgraced
These words are in the middle of the sorrow spectrum. They go beyond disappointment, but haven't yet reached full-fledged grief. You might feel these things if you are left out of a friend group or if you have lost a competition of some kind that was very important to you.
Sad, Lonely, or Defeated
In the middle of the joy spectrum, these words describe what you may experience when something good/fun has happened or when you receive something you were hoping/waiting for.
Happy or Excited
These words are in the middle of the fear spectrum. You may experience these feelings if you are in an area/situation that is or could become unsafe, if you have a bad dream, or if you are in conflict with someone where the outcome is uncertain.
Afraid, Scared, or Anxious
These words are the step just below exploding with anger. If you've hit this point, your muscle flexing has probably turned into muscle clenching, you're probably feeling tight and hot all over, and you might think you're one more word or difficulty away from completely losing it.
Livid or Furious
These words are a step before you get ridiculed or laughed at. You may feel these if you accidentally say/do something inappropriate for the situation, or if you accidentally do something that brings you intense and/or a lot of negative attention.
Mortified or Humiliated
Hurt, Unhappy, Abandoned, or even Victimized
When you are at this level on the joy spectrum, these words describe what you may be feeling. This level may be reached if you make a new friend/enter a new relationship or if you/someone else says something really funny.
Delighted, Thrilled, or Gleeful
This is the higher end of the fear spectrum. These words describe feelings you may experience if you are in an unsafe situation/area, if someone you care about is doing something unsafe, or if you see something happening that is very bad/wrong/violating/scary.
Distressed, Alarmed, Frightened
These words are on the high end of the anger spectrum. They occur when you feel completely out of control of your anger. Usually at this point you're feeling hot, your muscles are clenched, you might start shaking, and you're ready to absolutely explode.
Enraged or Aggressive/Hostile
These words are what you might feel if you've done something that is completely inappropriate for the situation and your usual character, or if people are ridiculing you/laughing at you (whether you've said/done something or not)
Worthless or Inferior
These words are at the high end of the sadness spectrum. You might feel this way when you have lost something or someone you love very much, or when several terrible things happen to you in a short amount of time.
Devastated, Depressed, or Hopeless
These words describe the highest end of the joy spectrum. You may experience these feelings when you complete/win something you have worked very hard for, when it is a special occasion such as your birthday, or when someone expresses intense delight in you (like your dog's reaction when you come home after any time away).
Ecstatic, Elated, Overjoyed, or Light
This is the highest end of the fear spectrum. These feeling words describe what you might experience if your health/life is in immediate danger, if someone you care about is in immediate danger, or if you see something happening that could put you in danger in the very near future.
Terrified, Panic, or Petrified
