Nonrestrictive Elements
Nonrestrictive elements add extra detail to the sentence without changing it’s meaning. They are usually marked with commas. Climax
The turning point of the plot. It is the highest amount of drama in the story. Everything changes after this point and begins to resolve the main conflict.The climax of The Outsiders is when Dally and Johnny die.
Subjective Pronouns
Act as the subject of the sentence. They are usually at the beginning of the sentence (I, we, they, she, he)oMarie and I love that movie.
1st Person
The narrator is the main character. Example: I was shocked when my diary was stolen.
Personification
Giving an object human characteristics. Making an object do something that only a human can do. Example: My pencil just walked off. I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Capitalization
Always capitalize proper nouns (names of people and places) and the pronoun “I” in a sentence.
Objective Pronouns

2nd Person
The narrator is talking to the reader. Example: You should have seen her face.
Hyperbole
Exaggeration (Example: Mary hasn’t seen him in one millions years!)

The feeling/emotion behind a word.
