Tires are recycled because if they are buried they will just resurface in the colder months from the frost and create holes in the ground. This is bad because then leachate and methane gas can get through and contaminate underground water.

Aluminum cans are melted down and reshaped into new cans. Plastic containers can be turned into fibers used to make clothing. Colored glass is used to make fiberglass insulation for homes. Juice and milk containers can be used to make cardboard boxes. Metal containers can be melted down into scrap metal then used as construction re-bar.
