These were all characters who were Blackest Night fusions with Batman, New 52 Shazam and Black Adam, and Batman Ninja Catwoman and Nightwing, who were considered to be the two best characters in the game. They, unlike other characters, could upgrade their passives using Nth metal, which was also a currency in the game.

Obviously Akuma is the Akuma of Ryu. He represents the opposite of himself, a fighter who succumbed to Satsui no Hado (Evil/Murderous Intent), instead of the Kyoi no Hado (Power of Nothingness). Evil Ryu is a theoretical manifestation of Ryu falling to Evil Intent, but he managed to purge this version of himself from his body. Unfortunately, he gave birth to this completely different character, the physical manifestation of Ryu falling to Evil Intent.
Who is Kage (Kagenaru Mono)?
This is the true physical manifestation of a version of Ryu who falls to the Satsui no Hado. He tries to prove that Ryu is empty and worthless without him by taking down his biggest rivals, Sagat and Akuma.

Mortal Kombat has a number of interesting characters. In the latest mainline game, Mortal Kombat 1 (no I don't know why it's called that, it's the 12th mainline game), they had two DLC packs full of interesting characters. This character is played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This is Etalus. In Rivals of Aether, he has a move similar to Falcon Punch that has some defensive utility, giving him armor that can be shot out during his strong attacks. The name of the move matches this Ice-type Pokemon move that lowers your speed.
What is Ice Hammer?
By spreading ice on the ground and using Ice Hammer, Etalus will form the ice into armor that applies to his moves. He can also shoot the armor in various ways using his strong attacks (equivalent to smash attacks).
Also looks cool as hell.

Everything I've found about Dead or Alive makes it seem like it's a gooner fighting game, which made a lot of sense since they added this lead woman of fighting games in Dead or Alive 6.
