What is an idiom?
A common word or phrase which means something different from its literal meaning but it can be understood because of its popular use.
Its raining cats and dogs
The picnic table felt as hot as a frying pan
The picnic table is very hot. Table is being compared to a frying pan.
Eric was a pig at dinner
Eric's eating is being compared to a pig. Indicating he has poor eating manners.
Lightning danced across the sky
Lightning being given the characteristic of dancing because it moves wildly in the sky.
Mom said, I've told you a million times to clean your room
Mom did not literally tell the child to clean room a million times. But it suggests she asked multiple times.
