What is Sound Effects (SFX)?

What is the Extreme Long Shot (Extreme Wide Shot?
refers to when the level of your camera is placed at the same height as the eyes of the characters in your frame.

What is a match cut?
is horizontal movement in which the camera moves right to left (or vice versa) from a central axis. Taken from the word "panorama," the physical position of the camera itself does not move.

What is foley sound?
a shot in filmmaking or television that sets up the context for the scene ahead, designed to inform the audience where the action will be taking place. It shows the relationship between people and objects, and establishes the scene’s geography.
What is Establishing Shot?
The camera appears to be shooting from directly above the subject, extremely high angle. It's somewhere around a 90-degree angle above the scene taking place.
What is Bird's eye?
Cutting between the same shot to show passing of time. It is when a single shot is broken with a cut that makes the subject appear to jump instantly forward in time.
What is a jump cut?
the camera stays fixed but rotates up and down on a vertical plane which is similar to the motion of an individual raising or lowering their heads
What is a tilt shot?
A process whereby sound is added to film. This may take the form of adding additional sound to dialogue, or it may refer to the addition of an entire dialogue.
What is dubbing?
a shot that frames the subject from just above their head down to about midway on their torso. The idea of a medium close-up shot is that you can still easily register the actor's emotions and facial expressions while also retaining some of the background.
What is Medium Close Up Shot (MCU)?
when the camera looks down on the character or subject from an elevated perspective. This is usually achieved by placing the camera higher than the subject and then angling it down on them.
What is a high angle?
is an editing technique that cuts separate actions together to illustrate moments that take place simultaneously within the narrative structure.
What is crosscut?
is a specific kind of tracking shot where we follow a subject on an apparatus or a cart that the camera is mounted on, which rolls along dolly track or on its own wheels.
What is dolly shot?

What is diegetic sound?
(also known as waist shot) is captured at a medium distance from the subject. It is used for dialogue scenes, but also depict body language and more of the setting. Oftentimes it will frame multiple subjects as well as a portion of the background and space in general.
What is medium shot?
Photographing from below as if you were looking up at the world around you. As you can imagine, this makes all subjects look very large, even if they are very small in reality. The subjects presented in this way look as though they hold power over the viewer, and can seem very intimidating.
What is a worm's eye view?
a shot that "cuts away" from the main action to any shot that adds visual information, and then returns to the original shot with new meaning.
What is cutaway shot?
is when the focal length of a camera lens is adjusted to give the illusion of moving closer or further away from the subject.
What is zoom shot?

What is Dutch Angle? (or Dutch Tilt, Canted Angle, Oblique Angle)
refers to when an action takes place on screen, and then cuts to a separate shot that allows the viewer to see the reaction to this action from other players in the scene.
What is a reaction shot?
is taken by a camera mounted on a jib or crane that moves up and down. The main function is to extend your camera out over a tripod, moving the camera up, down, left, right, or in any of those combinations.
