This technique divides your screen into a 3x3 grid. It creates more dynamic and pleasing compositions.
RULE OF THIRDS
This curved piece of glass is a camera's equivalent to the human eye. It's distance is measured in millimeters.
LENS
Also known as "drawing with light".
PHOTOGRAPHY
A transition where one shot is instantly followed by another.
CUT
ZOOM LENS
The quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis. With it, both sides of the image look the same.
SYMMETRY
This theory is based on the relationship between ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture. It's name is based on a geometric shape.
EXPOSURE TRIANGLE
THREE POINT LIGHTING
When a new scene carries over or matches elements from the preceding scene.
MATCH CUT
The lens with the closest field view to our own human eyes.
50mm lens
They lead the viewer’s eye from one direction to another, drawing their attention to specific points in a frame.
LEADING LINES
This camera setting affects two things: lighting and movement. The lower the number, the more blurry the movement.
SHUTTER SPEED OR SHUTTER ANGLE
Measured through the Kelvin Scale, this term describes the color of a visible light source.
LIGHT TEMPERATURE
A mental effect in which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots than from a single shot in isolation.
KULESHOV EFFECT
A 200mm is an example of this kind of lens, that yields a magnified image, narrower field of view and compresses the distance between foreground and background.
LONG or TELEPHOTO
The variation between light and dark in an image. The higher the effect, the more intense the colors, highlights and shadows are in a photo.
CONTRAST
f/1.8, f/4.0 and f/8.0 are all examples of this camera setting.
APERTURE
Diffused lighting that illuminates the subject with a gradual transition between light and shadow, not a harsh one.
SOFT LIGHTING
When a movie puts together a series of shots and moments together into one scene.
MONTAGE
The optical distance (usually measured in mm) from the point where the light meets inside the lens to the camera's sensor.
FOCAL DISTANCE
The size of the area in your image where objects appear acceptably sharp. It is typically described as "shallow" or "deep".
DEPTH OF FIELD
A lens with a focal distance of 14mm is also known as:
WIDE ANGLE LENS or EXTREME WIDE ANGLE LENS
A supplementary light that does not change the character of the key light and is used to lighten shadows.
The area of an editing software where you arrange your video clips and map out the edits you want to apply.
TIMELINE
This kind of lens tends to distort an image, especially when doing close-ups with people or objects
EXTREME WIDE ANGLE OR FISHEYE LENS
