In The Golden Touch, King Midas loved gold so much that he wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. A strange man grants his wish. At first, Midas is delighted with his new talent to make riches. Then, he touches his daughter, Marigold, who turns to gold. In the Middle East, which is between Asia and Europe, there is a large, famous lake. This lake is unusual. It is found in a valley, and the water is very salty. The name given to this lake is the Dead Sea.

On reason it may have been called "dead" is because it is so salty. No fish can live in it. Also, although water from rivers and streams can flow into the Dead Sea, no water can flow out of it. It would seem that the water level should be rising, but it does not. This is because the weather is so hot and dry that a large amount of water is always evaporating.

Death Valley is part of the American desert. Death Valley is one of the lowest places on earth. It is also one of the hottest places on earth. It is found in the middle of a mountain range in the American West.
