A = Two effects of the Silk Road are the spread of ideas/culture/religion and new markets.
C = The spread of culture came with the travelers as they moved their ideas wherever they go. The most spread religion because of this was Buddhism.
E = Traders were allowed to trade in new cities creating new markets, but had to pay a tax to the local government.
How was the Devshirme System connected to the success of the Ottoman Empire?
A = The Devshirme System helped gather people to work military or government positions.
C = They would gather Christian boys and convert them to Islam. They would also educate/train them to their desire.
E = The Devshirme System was non-hereditary, but the Janissaries were allowed to give their positions to their offspring.
How did "Joint Stock Companies" influence European behaviors toward colonialism?
A = Joint Stock Companies helped to sponsor exploration.
C = While most sponsors were monarchs, Join Stock Companies were a group of people who invested money to get a certain amount of ownership of a company. These companies would then sponsor exploration.
E = They would then win or lose profit based on the amount invested in the company.
List and briefly describe Thomas Hobbes's theory of a "Social Contract".
A = "Social Contract" is the idea that the people should give up certain liberties in exchange for protection and an orderly society provided by the government.
C = This idea was created by Thomas Hobbes. He the thought that humanity was inherently evil.
E = Because of this he decided that humanity would otherwise hurt itself and there would need to be a common and total government to have an orderly society.
