the British parliament started taxing the colonies to pay off the war debt. this angered the colonists because they had to pay money for a war they didn't even fight in. Examples of taxing is the sugar act and the coercive acts, were they taxed things like glass, paper, sugar, paint, etc. these taxes result in boycotts like the Boston tea party.
