The Continental Congress approved the final text of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, the date now celebrated as America’s Independence Day.
Although most of the 56 delegates signed the parchment copy on August 2nd 1776, this president of the Continental Congress had his signature appear on printed copies starting on July 4th 1776, when he approved the text for publication on the original Dunlap Broadsides.
