What is alliteration?
an idea that someone thinks is true, but that may be true or false
What is opinion?
a type of writing (story, narrative, poem, biography, historical fiction, etc.)

What kind of person is the character? It is the beliefs, hopes, dreams, ideals, values, morals, fears, strengths, weaknesses, talents, etc.

Humorous stories with extreme exaggeration. The characters have power and ability way beyond that of normal human beings. Example: Paul Bunyan
What is tall tale?
the reason for creating a work (to inform, to persuade, to entertain, etc.)
What is author’s purpose?
Stories written to try and explain things in nature. They most often come to us from ancient Greek or Roman stories.
What is mythology?
Includes all the elements in a story: setting, characters, plot, problem, solution, conclusion, etc.
What is literary elements?
A story that teaches a lesson
What is moral?
meaning write (describe, inscription, postscript, scribble)
What is scrib, script?
a statement that can be proven true
What is fact?
an extreme exaggeration

comparison using like or as
What is simile?
the ending of the story (the conclusion)
What is resolution?
naming of a thing of action by imitation of sounds
What is onomatopoeia?
A character in the story is the narrator. The character is telling the story. The character/narrator uses pronouns like I, me, and we.
What is first person point of view?
a comparison of two different things that are similar in some way
Examples:

moon : night :: sun : day
What is analogy?
a comparison of two things that have something in common…it states one thing is something else
What is metaphor?
the representation of an animal or thing as a person
What is personification?
fact or informational text (nonfiction text)
What is expository?
the author hints at what may happen later in the story
What is foreshadowing?
reading between the lines; reading faces, reading body language, reading expressions, and reading tone as well as reading text
What is inference?
A type of figurative language in which the meaning is quite different from the actual meaning.

What is idioms?
the feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader
What is mood?
The story is being told by an outside observer (someone who is not in the story). The author uses the pronouns he, she, and they.
