What is the difference between a Subsidized and an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan?
Subsidized loans the interest is paid by the US Dept of Education and are for undergraduate students with financial need. Unsubsidized loans require the borrower to pay the interest of the debt but you can defer your payments until, say, after college. Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to both undergraduates and graduate or professional degree students. You are not required to show financial need to receive a Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
