Unusual Sounds, unusual odors, unusual sights, and unusual behaviors
What is the method to gather information on a person's situation?
The SAM method
How do you decrease a person's anxiety when they are having a heart attack?
Comfort them because anxiety can increase discomfort
How many back blows and abdominal thrusts do you give?
5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts
Should you make sure the person's chest is dry and exposed before using an AED?
Yes
What are Good Samaritan laws?
They protect responders who act in a reasonable and prudent way
How do check an adult, child, and infant.
Adult and child you check from head to toe. Infant you check from toe to head.
Is Cardiac arrest the same as a heart attack?
No
What do you do if the person is too large for you to wrap your arms around
If the ill or injured person is an older adult how should you address them?
If they give you their last name address them more formally out of respect, ex. Mr. Underhill instead of Gary
What are the three C's?
Check, Call, Care
If the person is unresponsive what do you have?
Implied consent

Encourage them to keep coughing but be prepared to give first aid
What is the recovery position for an adult or child?
Have them on their side with their head on an extended arm with both knees bent
What are two pieces of PPE and what does PPE stand for?
PPE stands for personal protective equipment. Latex gloves and breathing barriers
How long do you check an unresponsive person for responsiveness and breathing.
No more than 5 - 10 seconds
What's different between the adult cardiac chain of survival and the pediatric chain of survival.
The pediatric chain has prevention as the first step.
What are some choking hazards for children?
Small household objects and foods that could easily lodge in the throat
