The First Sins
What is sin?
Sin is disobedience to God's laws, or saying "no" to God.
Is original sin the only kind of sin? If there is another kind of sin, what is it?
No, there is another kind of sin, called actual sin. Actual sin is any sin which we ourselves commit.
What is the Sacrament of Penance?
Penance is the Sacrament by which sins committed after Baptism are forgiven.
What is the first thing you do and then say in Confession?
I go into the confessional and kneel. I make the Sign of the Cross and say: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned."
Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Our first parents, Adam and Eve, committed the first sin on earth. It was called original sin.
What is mortal sin, and what does it do to us?
Mortal sin is a deadly sin. Mortal sin makes us enemies of God and robs our souls of His grace.

Venial sin is a lesser sin. It displeases God, but it does not make us enemies of God or rob our souls of His grace.

1. Find out my sins. 2. Be sorry for my sins. 3. Make up my mind not to sin again. 4. Tell my sins to the priest. 5. Do the penance the priest gives me.
After the priest tells you what to do for your penance, what do you say? What do you do after that?
I say the Act of Contrition. Then I leave the confessional and I do the penance the priest has given me and thank God for forgiving my sins.
