Imam Abu Hanifah rahimullah was asked by atheists about the existence of Allah so he answered by saying:

Leave me alone, because indeed I am thinking about a matter that I was told about. Then it moves wherever it likes without anyone driving it.

So the atheists told him:

He replied:

Woe to you! All of these creations with every miraculous detail do not have a Creator?

What are the Rulings on Directing worship to Other than Allah in this life and the next?

  • Whoever directs any act of worship to other than Allah for example, to supplicate (make duaa) to other than Allah, to sacrifice for other than Allah and so on is as follows:
  • The ruling of it in this life:

They have fallen into major shirk, leaving the fold of Islam because they directed worship to other than Allah

2. The ruling of it in the akhirah (next life):

If they die upon that belief without repentance then they become from the companions of the Hellfire, living there forever

Evidence on this:

Those who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. The Messiah ˹himself˺ said, “O Children of Israel! Worship Allah—my Lord and your Lord.” Whoever associates others with Allah ˹in worship˺ will surely be forbidden Paradise by Allah. Their home will be the Fire. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.

Surah Maidah verse 72

The disbelievers affirmed that Allah is their Lord, their Creator, and their Provider. Even though they affirmed Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah (Lordship), they are not counted as Muslims.

Why is that?

  • they did not single out Allah in His worship (Tawheed al-uluhiyyah)
  • They would associate with him others
  • They would worship idols, graves of the righteous, the sun and moon, the planets, and other things that they would worship
  • That is why Allah condemned them for that action
  • Allah The Exalted said:

And if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will definitely say, “Allah!” Say, “Praise be to Allah!” In fact, most of them do not know. Surah Luqman verse 25

Meaning of the verse: O Polythesists, if you recognize that Allah is The Lord of everything, then how do you worship other than Him!?
