A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.

We tell our sings to a priest to obtain forgiveness.  We go to the priest who takes Jesus' place.  Jesus, through the priest, forgives our sins.

We come into thie world without grace.  We are born with original sin.  This sin is called oroginal because it comes down to us from our 1st parents Adam and Eve.

What does it mean to have contrition for your sins?

Contrition is a sincere sorrow for having offended God. It is hatred for the sins we have committed, and a firm purpose of sinning no more.
