What is a fragment? Why is it a problem?
A sentence fragment is a clause that is not a complete sentence.
It is missing one of these three necessary parts: a subject, a verb, and a complete thought.
It is a problem because it is not complete. It confuses the reader.
What is a comma splice? Why is it a problem?
When you join two sentences with just a comma (and no conjunction, such as "and") it’s called a comma splice. A comma splice is a type of run-on sentence.
Fix it with a connecting word or divide it into two separate complete sentences.
It is a problem because it confuses your reader!
A "conjunction" joins two sentences together or two phrases together.
Name one conjunction. Why are they important?
(Think of FANBOYS, if you know what those are!)

They are important because they JOIN complete sentences. They help you complete your ideas.
What is a run-on? Why are they a problem?
A run-on is 2 or MORE sentences joined together incorrectly.
Again, run-ons are a problem because they confuse your reader. Your writing is not clear when you use run-on sentences.
When do we need to use commas in our writing?
The BASIC rules are:
Use a comma to separate anything before an independent clause. EX: In any case, I think you are doing extremely well.
Use a comma to separate independent clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions. EX: Your Coat of Arms is very interesting, and the artwork is so colorful.
Use a comma with lists of items. EX: She finished the College and Career class, Health, and half of Earth and Space Science this quarter.
Correct this fragment: The student at Learning for Life
One possible answer: The student at Learning for Life painted an awesome rock that looks like a turtle!
Correct this comma splice:
I missed pod, I have to go to the make up day on Thursday.
Possiblity:
Since I missed pod, I have to go to the make up day on Thursday.
Use a conjunction (a FANBOY) to fix this sentence:
Jason ate enchiladas, he was full.

One possibility:
Jason ate enchiladas, and he was full.
Fix this sentence:
I did my chores my sister did not.
I did my chores, but my sister did not.
Fix this sentence: Went to school saw the movie Inside Out II.
We went to school and saw the movie Inside Out II.
Correct this comma splice:
The Dodgers are on a streak, they won the playoffs, they were amazing.
Possiblity:
The Dodgers are on a streak and won the playoffs. They were amazing.
Fix this sentence with a conjunction:
Omar helped me with my math homework, I did very well on the test.

Omar helped me with math homework, so I did very well on the test.
Fix this sentence:
Mr. R. is a Dodgers fan, Mr. M. is a Giants fan.
One possibility:
While Mr. R. is a Dodgers fan, Mr. M. is a Giants fan.
Fix this sentence: Since I like gaming.
Possibility:
Since I like gaming, I want to go to Comic-Con in San Diego some day.
Fix this sentence:
Gael studied hard for the test, he passed with flying colors.
Possibility:
Gael studied hard for the test, and he passed with flying colors!
Fix this sentence with a conjunction:
