How can not following directions affect you at work?
Not following directions could lead to safety issues, verbal or written warning, and could make you lose your job.
You bought a new table and it is delivered disassembled. Your parents/staff will not be available to help. What do you do?

Verbal directions are directions that are spoken to you.

Your teacher is giving you oral directions for a project. How can you make sure you follow them correctly without asking them to repeat the directions?
Take notes! Smart people always take notes!
Another idea is to ask them if you can record their voice into your phone.

If you do not know how to do a task at work, what should you do?
They are several things you could do, depending on what the task is. You could ask your boss or a co-worker for directions, you could research how to do so many things on the internet by Googling it.

You are super hungry and have a microwaveable TV dinner. The directions tell you to pierce the plastic on top of the dinner tray and microwave the dinner tray on 'high' for 2 and a half minutes. How many seconds is 2 and a half minutes?

What are written directions?
Written directions are directions that are either physically written or typed.
What happens if you don't stop at a Stop sign when driving a car?
You could cause an accident, you could be stopped by the police, if someone has a dash cam you could end up on YouTube...
What else could happen?
You just bought a new model car but it didn't come with directions. How will you build the car without them? What can you do?
Their are a few things you can try. You could try to build the model without the directions, but you WILL mess it up.
You could write/email/call the company and ask them to send the directions.
You could go onto YouTube to see if someone made an instructional video for the model
Your boss emails you and asks you to complete a task and giving you directions to follow...the problem is that you don't understand some of the words in the directions. What do you do?
You could ask for clarification but don't ask more than once....or you could Google the words you don't understand.

You just adopted a dog (a Siberian Husky) that LOVES to be outside, so you build a special lead that you hook up to the dog so it can be outdoors and not run away. The dog pound recommends that you get your dog vaccinated for rabies. What could happen to the dog if it doesn't get vaccinated?
If the dog get bit by a rabid animal, it could kill your dog. If the rabid dog bites you, YOU could die without medical attention, which involves get many shots into your belly.

A GPS (global positioning satellite ) is a device that is either on a car, boat, airplane, or cell phone that detects your location. Some GPS devices can also give you directions as to where you want to go.

You could ask him to repeat the directions, but don't ask them more than once.
You buy some cake mix so that you can make a cake for your mom's birthday. You need to make the cake quickly because you forgot it was her birthday. In the directions, it says you need baking soda but you don't have that, but you do have baking powder.
What happens if you substitute the baking soda for baking powder?
The cake will not rise. Instead, it will look flat or deflated and it will taste funky...not such a great birthday cake for your mom, is it?

What can happen if you cross the street and the street light says, "Don't Walk"?
You could get hit by a vehicle, get sited for Jaywalking...

Insubordination! Not following directions in the workplace can get you fired.
You have been asked by to work with your co-worker on a project. You work together for a while but he doesn't understand some of the directions, but you do. What should you do?
Help him understand the task and maybe show him how to do the job. Do NOT take over the task; help them learn. It makes you look good and it helps your co-worker.
You just won a new BMW M5 car! You drive but it's running out of fuel, so you drive to the gas station. Next to the fuel gauge on the dashboard of the car, it says, " Premium Fuel Only- 93 Octane". When you pull up to the pump, you see 87 Octane, 91 Octane, & 93 Octane fuel". To fill the car up with 93, it will cost you $80 but you only have $5 in cash. You do have a debit card with $800 on it. What should you do?
You should use the credit card and fill it with 93 octane. Less octane will make the engine knock and perform poorly. Over time, the catalytic converters will fail which will costs thousands of dollars to fix and you won't pass emissions, which means that legally, you cannot drive the car.
Or...sell the car! It's worth a lot of money. If you have to fill that car every week at $80/fill up, that's $4160 in gas/year.

There are many ways. Here are some: printed on a piece of paper, mailed, emailed, texted...
You just got a new job and it's in a town you are unfamiliar with? Your parents/staff cannot drive you. What are your options?
You could use Uber.
You could go onto CT Transit and use the bus or take a train. Keep in mind, you may need to take more than one bus or train or a combination of taking the train and a bus.

Why do young people have trouble following directions?
Many reasons, which include but are not limited to:
- distracted by friends or co-worker, cell phones, 'drama'
- they are preoccupied with their personal issues (dating, marriage, money, disability, self-esteem)
- they are illiterate (can't read or write) or they are computer/tech illiterate (don't know how to use a computer/tablet/cell phone (except for social media,YouTube, games, and snapchat)
