Who is the quarterback?
This is comprised of the defensive tackles and defensive ends. Their job is to break through the offensive line to make tackles and rush the quarterback.
What is the defensive line?
This is when a team successfully gets the ball into the opposing team's endzone: 6 points.
What is a touchdown?
This is when a defensive player catches a forward pass thrown by the quarterback and runs in the opposite direction.
What is an interception?
A team starts with the ball on 1st and 10. They gain 5 yards on a running play. This is now the down and distance.
What is 2nd and 5?
This player normally lines up 5-7 yards in the offensive backfield and is responsible for taking handoffs from the quarterback, running ahead for positive yards, and sometimes catching passes. Ex. Saquon Barkley
Who is the running back?
This group stands 5-7 yards behind the line of scrimmage and backs up the defensive line.
Who are the linebackers?
This is when a team successfully kicks the ball through the uprights: 3 points.
What is a field goal?
This is the action that initiates every play. It can be directly to the quarterback, or a long snap to the punter or holder for field goals.
What is a snap?
It is fourth down. The offensive team can decide to either punt the ball, kick a field goal, or this.
What is go for it?
These players line up on either end of the field for the offense and are responsible for catching passes from the quarterback. Ex. Michael Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr.
Who are wide receivers?
This position is the last line of defense for most defensive schemes. Hint: It's also the name of a scoring play.
Who is the safety?
After the touchdown, a team is allowed to attempt to kick a point-after-touchdown through the uprights, also known as this: 1 point.
What is an extra point?
This refers to when a receiver successfully catches a forward and gets both feet down in bounds before either scoring or getting tackled.
What is a completion?
The defensive team usually plays a combination of these two types of defenses: man defense and this.
What is zone defense?
This group, comprised of the tackles, guards, and center, is responsible for blocking for the running backs and quarterback. These are usually big, beefy dudes.
What is the offensive line?
This player is responsible for guarding the opposing team's receivers. They are normally the fastest players on the field.

What is a safety?
This is the act of stopping a play by forcing the ball carrier to the ground.
What is a tackle?
Sometimes, a referee may throw a flag before, during, or after a play occurs. This type of infraction is known as this.
What is a penalty?
This player is a hybrid blocker and pass catcher. He is usually bigger than the average wide receiver, but can outrun some linebackers and safeties. Ex. Rob Gronkowski
Who is the tight end?
Not offense of defense, this is the unit that handles all kicking plays. It is made up of kickers, punters, kick returners, punt returners, and everyone else on the field.
What are special teams?
After a touchdown, the scoring team has the option to try to get the ball into the end zone again for this: 2 points.
What is a 2-pt conversion?
After a team successfully picks up ten yards on their offensive drive from where they first started, they have achieved this.
What is a first down?
This type of play begins each half of a football game, and proceeds after a touchdown or field goal.
