100

A change in an object's position

Motion

100

Give 2 examples of light energy that we can see in the classroom.

Window, overhead lights, projector (when it's on), smart watch, Mrs. M's phone or computer screen

100

The ability to do work.

Energy

100

________________ surfaces have ______ friction than rough surfaces.

Smooth; less

200

Any push or pull

Force

200

People use ________ energy to heat or cook food.

Thermal

200
When 2 or more objects hit each other with a force.

collision

Remember - it doesn't have to be violent!

200

Objects with _________weight (or mass) have a __________ gravitational pull.

more; stronger

300

Give 2 different examples of acceleration.

anything that speeds up, slows down or changes direction

300

How does sound energy travel?

Through vibrations that are carried by air, water, or other matter.

300

A law that says energy cannot be created or destroyed.  It can only change form.

Conservation of energy

300

Give at least 2 words besides left and right that can describe the POSITION of an object.

above, below, north, south, east, west

400

What is the difference between speed and velocity?

Speed is how fast something is moving while velocity is the speed AND direction of an object.

400

Explain the difference between kinetic energy and potential energy.  Give real life examples of each.

Kinetic - energy of motion

Potential - energy store in an object

Mrs. M will judge examples

400

Is it easier to stop a normal-sized car or an 18-wheeler semi truck?  Use the word momentum to explain your answer.

The semi truck is harder to stop because it has more mass and therefore has more momentum than a car.

Remember: the more momentum an object has the more energy it has!

400

Explain the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces with real life examples.

Balanced - forces that act on an object WITHOUT changing its motion

Unbalanced - forces that change the motion of an object

Mrs. M will judge the examples.

500

Define inertia and give a real life example.

When an object in motion stays in motion or when an object at rest stays at rest.

Ex: a skier going downhill will keep moving until the reach the bottom of the hill + many others.

500

Why does electrical energy have to flow through wires?

The wires direct the electricity where we want it to go.  Otherwise, electricity moves chaoticallly.

Bonus: It protects us from what would otherwise be a dangerous source of energy.

500

At the Delphi Opera House you turned the crank on the tiny music box and a tune came out.  Explain what type of energy you put in and what type of energy came out.

Kinetic energy in (to turn the crank) - sound energy out (music)

500

Explain the difference between contact and non-contact forces with real life examples.

Contact - forces that occur when one object touches another

Non-contact - forces that occur without objects touching

Mrs. M will judge examples
