Explain where the potential and kinetic energy is on top of a roller coaster hill and going down the hill and how some of the mechanical energy changes into thermal energy.
What is as you go up and down a roller coaster hill potential energy is converted into kinetic energy and back again. There is friction between the car's wheels and the track between the cars and the air around them. Some of the mechanical energy changes into thermal energy because of friction.

Does the energy get lost or conserved when mechanical energy changes into thermal energy with the roller coaster's car's wheels and the roller coaster track? What is the name of this law?
What is the energy is never lost; it is conserved. This is called the law of conservation of energy.

Describe the flow of energy from the sun to the fuel tank of an automobile.
What is in the sun, nuclear energy is used to generate electricity and gives the sun its energy. It comes from changes in the nucleus of an atom when 2 nuclei join or when 1 big nucleus splits apart, energy is given off. Light and heat energy is given off through the chemical reaction called fusion. In a fuel tank of a car, the fuel is what gives a car its kinetic energy. The fuel tank is the stored potential energy. Some of this kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy which is lost through the exhaust pipe and the radiator of a car. Just like the sun, a fuel tank of a car also stores energy and gives off energy.
