Answer question 7 on your handout.

You should have added the X's above 4 5/8's on your line plot, making it so there are 3 X's in total.

You should have added the X's above 4 7/8's on your line plot, making it so there is 1 X there now.

Go to question 7 on your handout.

The line plot below shows the lengths of 8 toy cars. Pam measures 3 more cars and finds their lengths to be 4 inches, 4 6/8 and 4 2/8 inches. Add these measurements to the line plot.

Now, your line plot should have one X above 4 and 4 6/8, and 2 X's above 4 2/8

Answer question 10 on your handout!

1. The circle on the left shows 1/4, because it is split into four equal parts and one part is shaded. The circle on the right shows 2/8, because it is split into eight equal parts and two parts are shaded. The same amount is shaded in the two circles, so the two fractions are equal. In other words, we have 1/4 = 2/8.

2. If you multiply both the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) of 1/4 by 2 you get 2/8. Since multiplying by the same number is like multiplying by 1 (which doesn’t change the value), the fractions are equivalent.

3. When I simplify the fraction, I know these fractions are equivalent. To simplify, divide both the numerator and denominator of 2/8 by 2, and get 1/4.
