Andrea cut 6 indentical cackes into 8 equal pieces each, and then 20 pieces were eaten. What is the mixed number to describe how much cacke is left? Explain your thinking.
The mixed number to describe how much cacke is left is 3 4/8. First I had to get the numerator for the improper fraction so I had to multiplied 6 by 8 which equaled 48. Then I subtracted 48 by 20 which equaled 28 so therefore 28 is the numerator for the improper fraction. There were 8 pieces of cacke and usually if you have a problem like this the denominator is the pieces of cacke so therefore the denominator is 8 (the fraction is 28/8). Now we have to turn 28/8 to a mixed number and in order to turn it to a mixed number you have to first so if 8 can go into 28 and 8 can't go into 28 so you have to see the closest which is 8 x 3 so 3 would be the whole number now we have to find out the numerator and to get the numerator you have to do 28-24 because we are trying to find out how to get to 28 and we are subtracting 28 by 24 because 8 x 3 equals 24, 28-24= 4 so therefore the numerator is 4. Finally the denominator is 8 beacause the denominator always stays the same. So therefore the mixed number is 3 4/8, the anser is 3 4/8.

Maya has 3/4 of yard material. She uses 1/4 to cover a chair. How much yard is she left with?
Maya has 1/2 of a yard left. First I subtracted 3/4 by 1/4 which equaled 2/4. Finally I tried to see if the denominator of 2/4 (the denominator of 2/4 is 4) can be divided into a number thats lower then itself, and I know that the only number that 4 can be divided by is 2 so 2 is the denominator of the final anser but know I have to find the numerator so in order to find the numerator I have to do the same thing, we know that 2 is the numerator right so a number that 2 can be divided by is 1 so therefore the final ansers numerator is 1. Therefore the fraction is 1/2, the anser is 1/2.

Dave ate 8/4 of chocolate chip cookies and 8/6 of SKOR caramel chip cookies. Which type of cookie did he eat the most?
Dave ate more SKOR caramel chip cookies than chocolate chip cookies. First I looked at the numerator and see which number is bigger but both numerators have the same number. Then I looked at the denominators and see which number is bigger and the denominators are diffrent, the chocolate chips cookie denominator is 4 and the SKOR caramel cookies denominator is 6. So therefore Dave ate more SKOR caramel chip cookies than chocolate chip cookies.
